A look into how Model Based Systems Engineering is changing the Automotive Industry. MBSE promotes a thorough systems engineering phase before much of the traditional automotive design and development activities are started. This can seem alarming to those used to the wave of activity usually associated with the start of a new project.

The theory is sound – effective up-front requirements definition, system design and preliminary simulation can save a huge amount of time and “cost of change” associated with the discovery of problems at the later stages of a program. MBSE could also be viewed as the foundations of a “Virtual Twin” approach.
